Dichotomy

Dr Seuss' Lonely
Life's a funny thing.  All about balance, only instead of one pivot point and two ends its like an octopus balanced on stilts, with each metaphorical leg being an area of your life and the center point being your innermost self.  A leg for the business and a leg for emotional, a leg for creative and a leg for the day job.  One day you can be working on a major photo sale, taking beer to your florist buddies, and prepping to hire an additional minion for the day job, and the next, which happened to also be Valentine's Day, you're telling your existing minion he didn't get the promotion he was angling for and having a discussion with your significant other about the state of your relationship and how its ending.

Sometimes in life situations change to make space for growth and new opportunities.  It generally sucks while the space is being created though.

Even Empty Space Is Curved...

Serenity in Blue
"Physics tells us even empty space is curved..."
The Tao of Physics

I read this line last night in my most recent book.  The idea that all things, are intuitive, curved, and not predictable is innately appealing, that even the most justifiable of scientific breakthroughs are often intuited through some relaxed, creative act and then proven in lab.

Perhaps I'm looking for justification in what people have termed my "organic" style of scheduling.  :)  Personally I find balance to be an important thing in all areas, even in morning departure times for the office (which turns out just fine so long as I remember not to schedule anything first thing in the morning).  If the little birds are hungry or my plants are thirsty or my dragon-like cat needs snuggling I'll take the five or ten minutes and indulge.  It tends to make the entire day better and makes me less likely to come home to shredded books or a half-devoured fern.  And opening one's life to some form of spontaneity and disorganization (or at least a relaxing of the regimentation, of the list-driven motivators) can have unexpected benefits.

Even physics tells us chaos is the true nature of the universe, and by loosening the reins most of us (I've gotten MUCH better over the past couple years) keep on our innermost selves we invite growth and change.  I'm not advocating a total disruption.  Bills have to be paid and obligations have to be met.  Client meetings and tax statements and such.  But inviting the little voice that says "you should go to yoga after work just because..." or "buy those lilies..." lets the soul stretch.

And yes, its 0 degrees and snowing, and chaos said "you should stop at the grocery store and check out the floral department..." on the way home tonight.  An orchid and two pots of growing lilies later I'm about to make the grown-up version of PBJ (peach-champagne jam and coconut almond butter on fresh bread, with Fritos on the side - don't knock it till you try it...)  Because even sore from last night's impromptu yoga class chaos and I are buds.  And if you ask the grocery baggers to wrap the plants in paper bags they survive the brisk journey to the car just fine.
